Extra-ordinary Views

Group exhibition curated by Merryn Hull at Articulate upstairs, Leichhardt in June 2016. It presents eight artists whose work pursues ideas of the ‘everyday’ in ‘extra-ordinary’ ways: Ciaran Begley, Georgia Brown, Camilla Cassidy, Kirsten Drewes, ek.1 (Katie Louise Williams + Emma Hicks), Stephen Little and James Nguyen.

The two exhibitions comment on the nature of contemporary painting by referencing ideas which expand the notion of ‘painting’ as painting in terms of its traditional medium definition; ‘painting’ as installation/assemblage which alludes to painting; ‘painting’ as the photographic which functions as painting and ‘painting’ as video/projection which uses the moving image to evoke painting.

Images show views towards I’m Ok, You’re Ok #2 seen through works by Georgia Brown.

Photo documentation: Chloe Rayfield and Stephen Choi
